North West Castle Hotel Stranraer

Local Activities in and around Stranraer

The town of Stranraer is a bustling sea port, with its ancient castle in the centre, surrounded by busy and friendly shops. Stranraer is the ideal base from which to explore the Rhins of Galloway.

Some of Scotland's most famous gardens are in the south west, including the subtropical Logan Botanic Gardens, warmed by the gulf stream. Drive down quiet country roads to the Mull of Galloway, Scotland's most southerly point. Walk along the cliff top with views to Ireland and the Isle of Man.

There are quiet sandy beaches, wild flowers in the springtime and the cry of seabirds in the air. Ferries sail frequently from Stranraer to Belfast and day trips are easily arranged to some of Ireland's famous attractions.
